Effective December 2, 2011 Mark Pope is contracted to serve for one year as temporary minister at Unity of Birmingham, Alabama. The following words express Mark's initial perspective on this calling:
“Although I did not know I would serve in the role of Unity minister again, I remember feeling a stirring when I became aware of this opening where the previous minister, Rev. Gerald Bartholow, had passed away after some 30 years' service. My first response was to remember this church to be the one where Rev. Catherine Ponder began her work in ministry. For those who may not know, Rev. Ponder went on to teach and demonstrate the essence of prosperity to millions through the printed word. I could write many pages describing her various accomplishments. I sense she would not wish that. A number of synchronicities and much grace unfolded to bring into manifestation this relationship with Unity of Birmingham. However, for now this is the only point I want to make: I dedicate this time of service to Catherine Ponder and to the grace and integrity she has embodied and demonstrated. May that spiritual grace and integrity find new forms and shine for all to see. May this happen not to the credit of Mark or anyone else. May this happen as the Light of a Love which transcends all form and a Power to which all things are effortlessly achievable!”
